The end of the year is fast approaching…have you used all of your vision benefits?
As part of overall health and wellness, many people need corrective lenses – contacts, glasses, or often, people choose both. Vision plans are meant to assist patients in lowering their out-of-pocket costs for comprehensive eye exams and materials (frames, lenses and contact lenses).
Vision plans are elected at the time you choose an insurance plan. Every plan has some differences but the main concept is generally the same, including the timeline to use your benefits.
Vision Benefit Timeline
Many major medical plans have a minimum copay or deductible to pay before the insurance fully kicks in. After the deductible is paid, the patient gets unlimited care with little to no more out-of-pocket money.
Vision plans are slightly different. Once you pick a vision plan, you begin paying the yearly insurance premium. This makes you eligible for discounts and benefits toward your comprehensive eye exam and contacts and glasses. Many plans offer discounts on premium lenses and lens treatments like anti-glare (also known as AR) and anti-fatigue lenses. Most plans are based on the yearly insurance premium, which means they expire at the end of the year. Not taking advantage of your vision benefit by the end of the year could mean you miss out on the insurance savings you have been paying for all year long!
