Night driving…who loves it? Nobody!

As we age, night driving can be more of a concern, as it gets more difficult to see clear at night.

As we get older our bodies change…and so do our eyes.  It can be more difficult to see clearly at night while driving. Ever wondered why?

Age is a factor

Remember when we talked about how your eyes work?  Light sensitive cells on the back of your eyes called rods and cones send a stimulus to your brain that in turn creates an image.  As we age our eyes also age…and changes occur.  If you are over 40 you may have seen a change in how well you see at night.  The rods in your eyes that work well in low light settings, like driving at night, are fewer as you age.  As you age, the rods are also not as quick at sending stimuli to the brain.  It is also possible that cataracts have begun to form on your lenses, which can make things look less clear.
